Here are just a few things you probably don't know about Paul. I thought I'd write a few of them here to reminisce and let you know how special he is to us. :)
Paul was almost named Nathan. Paul's name didn't came to use readily after he was born. In fact, he was baby boy Wertenbaker for a few days until we named him Paul. We went to the hospital with a few names that we liked written down. We thought that we would know the right name for him when we finally get to meet him. But due to a very long and difficult delivery, I wasn't fully ready to name him just yet. We'd gone thru the process of elimination & decided he looked like a Paul. We are very happy we decided on naming him Paul. I couldn't have pictured him with any other name.
Paul has my maiden name as his middle name. In the Philippines, children automatically gets their Mother's maiden name as their middle name. So, as our first born we wanted to honor that tradition. He is the first grandchild on my side and the second on John's (John's niece was almost 21 when Paul was born!). We're glad he loves his name too-- Paul Cea Wertenbaker.
He was born with a full head of thick, black hair.
He was a happy and content baby. He loved being talked to and played with. He is/was such a joy!!
Although he knew many things at an early age, He didn't talk until he was about 4 yrs old! He had articulation problem & very nasal-- his "s" sounds went through his nose. He had private speech theraphy for 2 years. All the hard work & expense put into the theraphy paid off!
He loved puzzles, dinosaurs, trains, and Lois & Daisy (our cats at the time). He loved walking and stays on the sidewalk! I remember how people would give me the worried look that I'm not holding on tight to his hands and that he might go running off onto the street. He seemed to just know where to go and followed the sidewalk without deviating. At around 18 months old, he used to walk a few blocks at a time everyday!
At 3 months old, he was a trooper and survived a 14 hour drive to visit my family living at the time in the suburbs of Chicago! We stopped for the night in Ohio and started where we left off bright & early the next day. At 6 months old, he travelled halfway around the world! He survived a 24 hour total travel to get to the Philippines when we all went to visit family & friends. He loved traveling then & still loves it now, we can picture him traveling to see many interesting & beautiful places in the future.
